The Head of Training & Checking is responsible for the standards of all Flight and Cabin Crew and the development and implementation of training (initial & recurrent) programs within the Company fleet that ensure and promote safe
operations in compliance with CASA Regulations and Company policies and procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Promote a positive Safety Culture in the company and ensure that no disciplinary action will be taken against any staff member for reporting errors, safety deficiencies, hazards, accidents and incidents.
• Encourage staff to report errors, safety deficiencies, hazards, accidents and incidents.
• Communicate, with visible endorsement, the safety policy, goals and objectives to all staff.
• Safely manage the training and checking activities of the company for the company’s flight crew.
• Ensure that the Company complies with each provision of the civil aviation legislation that relates to the qualifications, training or checking of the operator’s flight crew.
• Report to the head of flying operations on the Company’s compliance with the civil aviation legislation that relates to the qualifications, training or checking of the Company’s flight crew.
• Ensure that training and checking of flight crew conducted by or for the operator is conducted in accordance with this exposition.
• Set and maintain flight standards for all pilots and flight crew check and training staff.
• Set and maintain operating standards for all cabin crew and cabin check and training staff.
• Review the performance of the Training and Checking Organisation.
• In consultation with the HOFO, select and appoint Training and Checking staff.
• Conduct internal incident or accident investigations as requested by the SQM.
Essential Criteria:
• Sufficient experience and qualifications to hold the CASA approved HOTC position.
• Previous Instructor/Examiner or equivalent experience.
• Hold an ATPL, current multi-engine Command Instrument Rating and valid class 1 medical.
• Have sufficient safety and regulatory knowledge to enable the company to conduct air transport operations safely and compliantly.
• Excellent verbal communication and written skills with strong attention to detail.
• Work well within a team environment.
• Have at least 500 hours flight time on a type of aeroplane on a Dash 8 aircraft or similar type.
• Have at least 6 months experience in the conduct or management of air operations conducted under an AOC.
• Have sufficient safety and regulatory knowledge to enable the company to conduct air transport operations safety and in accordance with this exposition.
• Holds or able to hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC).
• Training and Checking experience in a Part 121 or Part 141 / 142 organisation.
• Demonstrable skills and ability to provide a customer focused service.
• The successful applicant will be required to be approved by CASA prior to commencing in the role.
• Comply with the Part 121 key personnel requirements for the Head of Checking and Training.
